Alabama secedes

• Alabama’s called State Convention, meeting in the State Capitol in Montgomery, votes 61-39 to secede from the Union/1861 

• Louisiana state troops occupy the US Marine Hospital at New Orleans./1861

• President-elect Abraham Lincoln writes Congressman James T. Hale (R-PA), “If we surrender, it is the end of us, and of the government.” Actually it was this imperial president who would put an end to the Founders Republic in an effort to ‘save the Union.’/1861
