Sen. Davis to South: Remain in lame duck Congress

  • [SECESSION CONVENTION] South Carolina's Washington Commissioners report to the Convention that their correspondence with United States President Buchanan is not good/1861 
  • Senator Jefferson Davis (D-MS) writes Governor Pettus of Mississippi recommending that all Southern Congressmen remain in their seats until March 4 to block legislation hostile to the South. He also recommends that secession ordinances should not go into effect until March 4, the day of Lincoln's inauguration, in order to send a message to the incoming Administration./1861
